Walking around...
Located in Rue Cail, in the 10th borough of Paris, the flat is near Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est. It is a fascinating borough with a long history and a real mix of people and styles.
You can choose to eat in a very Parisian style cafe like La Bulle, a few minutes from the flat, and enjoy a typical French dish (but don't forget the wine!). Or, if you fancy it, try to eat at an Indian place, or even a Caribbean restaurant! Next to metro Louis Blanc (5 min walking) you'll find many trypical French restaurants. Chez Pepe is a nice restaurant featuring dishes from the French countryside, so give it a try!
The area is filled with happy children. The street is a one-wayt street, so it suffers from less traffic than the usual Parisian street. It is also safer.
But of course you will also find your typical Parisian cafes, and bakeries. Try the one at the end of Rue Cail, to die for!
You can also ask for a coffee and sit outside (they bring a table out), if the weather allows it.
If you want to venture a bit further, walk towards the Canal Saint Martin (about 10 min), a great place to take a stroll, or, if you are looking for trendy bars and clubs, a night out (don't arrive to late on a weekend night as you may not be able to enter).
In front of train stations Gare du Nord (7 min) and Gare de l'Est (around 12 min) are also perfect places to enjoy a coffee at a terrace d'un cafe and watch the world go by - or, more, see all these busy people trying to catch their train! Or, simply sip on a beer or cocktail, as the area is up and coming when it comes to bars and clubs.
Where to buy food
If you urgently need milk or wine, there is a "G20" supermarket right next to the flat, where you will find pretty much everything you may need, from food, wine, to pens and paper, cleaning products and so on.
We recommend the bakery Maison Bichon (to the end of the street when you turn left exiting the building - photo above), they prepare divine cakes. Make sure you don't miss it!
Emergencies
If you need a hospital (we certainly don't hope so), you will find the Laribroisiere Hospital, about 10 min away (walking).
Electronics
The area has its share of small electronic and telecom shops, so if your camera or video camera breaks down, you'll know where to go. You can also buy cheap pay as you go international SIM cards that will save you these nasty roaming costs.
